My process is impulsive; an expressive response. It's about capturing
transitory moments. Memory and nostalgic sensibility are key influences in my
work. Landscapes become points of departure, where I can focus on reducing
planes in a minimalist manner, concentrating more on essence and atmosphere. My
goal is to look for connections between things: how one color flows into
another; forms engage and separate; how one point in space influences
another, creating landscapes that become abstractions of color, rhythm and texture.
This is the quiet place in my mind. It's fleeting; a place from
memory that seems familiar to the viewer but is somehow elusive. I honor a sense
of remembrance in the empty spaces. My process is meditative; solitary. Since
the death of my father, I struggle with a sense of loss, which translates
through my work. There is an underlying pensiveness, even melancholy; an
acceptance of what is and what may pass and the sense that there is something
greater and unknown.
